Most furniture showrooms in Bangkok sell you a photograph. The piece itself was built somewhere else — a factory in Italy, Vietnam, or China you will never see, by people you will never meet, then shipped, taxed, and marked up three times before it reaches the showroom floor.
Space K works differently, because the factory is the business. Before there was a website or a showroom, there was the atelier — the same one that has been building for Banyan Tree, Sansiri, Novotel, and a long list of hospitality and property groups for 40 years. When you commission a piece, it is built in the same building, by the same craftsmen, using the same construction standards as the hotel suite furniture that guests never think to ask about.
THE FRAME COMES FIRST
A sofa's lifespan is decided in the first stage, not the last. The frame shop cuts and joins kiln-dried hardwood — not the compressed particleboard that fills most mid-market Bangkok showrooms. Joints are doweled and glued, not stapled. This is the stage that determines whether a sofa is still solid in fifteen years or sagging in three, and it is also the stage no customer ever sees in a finished showroom piece.
Because the frame is built to your brief rather than pulled from a warehouse, this is also where your actual dimensions get built in — seat depth, arm height, back angle. Nothing here is approximated from a catalogue spec sheet.
UPHOLSTERY IS WHERE THE HAND SHOWS
Foam density, webbing tension, and fabric cutting are all done by hand, by craftsmen who have been doing this for decades. Machine-cut upholstery is faster and cheaper — and it is also why mass-market sofas develop visible seams and sagging cushions within a year or two. Hand-cut, hand-fitted upholstery is slower and it is the reason a well-built sofa still looks correct after a decade of daily use.

FINISHING, INSPECTION, AND WHY LEAD TIME EXISTS
The 8–14 week lead time on a Space K commission is not a shipping estimate — there is no shipping. It is the actual time required to build a piece correctly: 1–2 weeks for design and a fixed quote, then frame construction, upholstery, finishing, and a final inspection before the piece ever leaves the building. Every stage happens in Wang Thonglang. Nothing waits at a port.
Clients are welcome to visit the atelier itself before committing to anything — see the frame shop, look at material samples in daylight, and meet the people who will actually build the piece. That visit is free, and for a commission this size, we think it should be non-negotiable.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR THE PIECE IN YOUR HOME
When a piece is built in the same factory that furnishes five-star hotel suites, the construction standard does not change because the client is a private home rather than a hospitality brand. The frame joinery, the foam grade, the stitching — all of it is the same standard, because it is the same workshop and the same craftsmen. The only thing that changes is that the piece is built around your room, not a hotel's specification sheet.
