The seat is lower than European convention — typically 36–40cm from floor to seat, compared to the 43–47cm standard in Italian catalogue pieces. That lower profile does two things: it makes a room with standard Bangkok ceiling heights feel taller, and it changes how your body sits in the piece.

The frame is linear and clean — not because minimalism is fashionable, but because unnecessary visual complexity in a small room is a design failure. Every detail that does not need to be there is removed. What remains is a piece that reads as deliberate rather than decorated.

The negative space around and beneath the sofa is treated as part of the design. The gap between frame and floor is specified precisely. The relationship between the sofa's mass and the empty space it sits within is considered at the drawing stage, not discovered after delivery.

Every Gipum commission starts from zero: seat height calibrated to the client, seat depth matched to how they actually sit, frame width determined by the room rather than by catalogue standards. The fabric is selected from a library curated for Bangkok's climate — materials that perform in tropical humidity without losing their appearance or their feel. The leg height is set to the ceiling height of the specific room, not to a standard production spec.

The process begins with a site visit. We come to your space, take measurements, photograph the room, and have a conversation about how you use it and what you want it to feel like. From that visit, we produce a design proposal — dimensions, material samples, construction approach — before any commitment is made.
