A console has to fit a wall, clear a skirting board, sit below a light switch and leave room for a door to swing. A side table has to match the arm height of the chair it serves. None of these are numbers a catalogue can guess.
They are also the pieces where material does most of the work. Upholstery hides a multitude of decisions; a stone top and a metal frame hide nothing at all. The slab you choose, how it is edged, how thick it reads and how the metal is finished are the whole design — which is why these are the pieces most worth seeing in samples before you commit.

Marble and brass consoles are an Italian high-design tradition — travertine or Calacatta over hand-cast brass. An heirloom piece, and one where the slab is selected individually: no two pieces of natural stone carry the same veining, so the one you approve is the one that ships.

Marble is the classic and the most porous — it etches where anything acidic touches it, and in a Bangkok living room that usually means a lime wedge or a glass of wine. Calacatta and Statuario are prized for dramatic veining; Carrara is quieter and more forgiving. Travertine is warmer, softer and naturally pitted, and the pits can be left open or filled. Engineered stone is non-porous and essentially maintenance-free but has a repeating pattern rather than genuine veining. There is no universally right answer — there is the one that matches how the piece will actually be used.
Natural stone is porous and needs a penetrating sealer, and in Bangkok humidity that is not a one-time job: sealers wear and need periodic reapplication, more often on a surface that gets daily use than on a hallway console. Ask any maker whether the piece arrives sealed, which sealer, and how often it should be redone. A stone top delivered unsealed will take a stain in its first month and it will not come out.
Stone tops are typically 20 mm or 30 mm solid. A thicker slab reads more substantial and costs more in both material and freight. Where a heavier look is wanted without the weight, a mitred edge wraps a thinner slab so the top appears thicker at the perimeter. The edge profile — square, eased, bullnose, chamfered — changes the character of the piece more than most people expect from a two-millimetre decision.
Unlacquered brass darkens and patinas with handling; lacquered brass holds its colour but the lacquer can eventually wear through in high-contact spots. Neither is better — they are different intentions, and the choice should be deliberate rather than assumed. Brushed, satin, antiqued, polished, gunmetal and matte black are all available on hand-cast frames.
The material decides how the piece ages more than the silhouette does. We hold samples of everything below — a physical board comes with your quote, because leather cannot be chosen from a screen.
Leather
Dyed all the way through and left unsealed. The grain, the healed scars, the shading — all still visible. It marks easily and it patinas beautifully. Choose it if you want the hide to record your use of it.
Aniline dyeing with a thin pigment layer on top. Keeps most of the depth and grain while surviving a household with children or a dog. The default recommendation for a main living-room sofa.
A heavier surface coat. The most uniform in colour and the most resistant to spills, sunlight and cleaning. The least alive to the hand.
Saturated with oil or wax so the colour lightens where the hide is pulled and stretched. Scratches burnish out under a thumb. Not a hide for someone who wants it to stay identical.
Sanded on the grain side to a fine nap. Warm, matte, tactile — and the least forgiving of anything wet.
Fabric
Belgian and Thai-woven. Breathes in humidity, creases honestly, softens with every wash. The right answer for a room that gets real sunlight.
Cotton, viscose or performance-backed. Reads as depth of colour rather than surface colour. Shows a pile direction — deliberate, not a fault.
Looped wool-blend. Hides everyday marking better than almost anything else and gives a sculpted form its texture.
Solution-dyed acrylics and polyesters. Bleach-cleanable and UV-stable. What we specify for balconies, pool rooms and houses with very young children.

Ours start at ฿95,000 for a marble pedestal side table and ฿120,000 for a marble and brass console, at reference dimensions. Slab choice is the largest single variable — Calacatta costs considerably more than Carrara. You get a fixed written quote before any deposit is taken.
Yes, and for a feature piece you should. Natural stone varies slab to slab, so veining is selected rather than specified. We photograph the candidate slabs, and for larger commissions you are welcome to see them in person before we cut.
Humidity itself is not the problem; porosity is. Marble etches on contact with anything acidic and absorbs oils if it is unsealed. A penetrating sealer handles ordinary household use, but it wears and needs reapplying periodically — more often on a surface in daily use than on a hallway console. If a piece will take drinks every evening, engineered stone or travertine is the more honest recommendation.
That is the usual reason for commissioning a console. Give us the wall, and tell us about the skirting board, the switches and sockets, and any door swing. We build to the opening rather than to a catalogue width.
