The gap between two armchairs that a coffee table would crowd. The lobby run that has to seat six people without becoming a sofa.
They are also the most sensible way to commission a bespoke piece for the first time. A bench has no seat angle to get wrong and no arm height to negotiate — it is a length, a height and a material. That makes it the cheapest way to find out whether a workshop actually builds well, and it is why a good number of our sofa clients started here.
Because these pieces are almost always filling a specific gap, the standard sizes below matter less than usual. Tell us the length you need and the height it has to match.

Mid-century Italian
The Italian mid-century gave us bouclé as a finish — wool-blend texture, sculpted volumes, designed for sun-drenched apartments overlooking Mediterranean coasts. On a long bench the looped pile is what keeps a plain rectangle from reading as flat.

Art Deco lobby
The grand lobbies of the 1920s and 30s used channel-tufted velvet benches as the signature element. Long, low, deeply confident. Each channel is stitched and padded individually, which is what stops a long seat sagging in the middle the way a single foam slab eventually will.

Commission this →A bench looks like the simplest thing in a workshop and is the easiest to build badly. Three things decide it. The exact specification for your piece is written on your quote.
A bench is almost never a freestanding decision. At the foot of a bed it should sit at or just below the mattress top. In an entrance, a perching height of roughly 45–50 cm works for putting shoes on, while a dining bench needs about 45 cm to pair with a 75 cm table. As a footstool in front of a lounge chair it should match the chair's seat height or sit slightly below it — above it and your knees end up higher than your hips. Bring us the height of the thing it has to work with and the rest follows.
Past roughly 150 cm a timber-framed bench needs either a centre support or a substantially deeper rail, or the middle will develop a visible dip within a few years of daily use. A steel frame spans further without one. This is the single most common fault in cheap long benches and it is invisible on the day it is delivered — which is exactly why it is worth asking about before you buy.
On a long seat, deep buttoning and channel tufting are not only decorative. Each stitch anchors the fill and stops it migrating toward the ends, which is what keeps the surface even. A plain slab of foam over a long frame is faster and cheaper to make and will show its wear pattern much sooner. If a bench is going to be sat on every day, the stitched constructions genuinely earn their cost.
Kiln-dried hardwood at roughly 8–12% moisture content, corners glued and screwed rather than stapled. Foam judged by density (kg/m³) rather than initial firmness: economy runs about 18–25, mid-market 28–33, high-resilience foam roughly 33–50. Benches take concentrated point loading from people perching on the edge, so the edge construction matters more here than on a deep seat.
The material decides how the piece ages more than the silhouette does. We hold samples of everything below — a physical board comes with your quote, because leather cannot be chosen from a screen.
Leather
Dyed all the way through and left unsealed. The grain, the healed scars, the shading — all still visible. It marks easily and it patinas beautifully. Choose it if you want the hide to record your use of it.
Aniline dyeing with a thin pigment layer on top. Keeps most of the depth and grain while surviving a household with children or a dog. The default recommendation for a main living-room sofa.
A heavier surface coat. The most uniform in colour and the most resistant to spills, sunlight and cleaning. The least alive to the hand.
Saturated with oil or wax so the colour lightens where the hide is pulled and stretched. Scratches burnish out under a thumb. Not a hide for someone who wants it to stay identical.
Sanded on the grain side to a fine nap. Warm, matte, tactile — and the least forgiving of anything wet.
Fabric
Belgian and Thai-woven. Breathes in humidity, creases honestly, softens with every wash. The right answer for a room that gets real sunlight.
Cotton, viscose or performance-backed. Reads as depth of colour rather than surface colour. Shows a pile direction — deliberate, not a fault.
Looped wool-blend. Hides everyday marking better than almost anything else and gives a sculpted form its texture.
Solution-dyed acrylics and polyesters. Bleach-cleanable and UV-stable. What we specify for balconies, pool rooms and houses with very young children.

Ours start at ฿55,000 for a round tufted stool and run to ฿98,000 for a large bouclé bench, at reference dimensions. Length is the main driver of the final figure. You get a fixed written quote before any deposit is taken.
Yes, and that is usually the point. Give us the opening you are filling — the width of the hallway, the span at the foot of the bed, the gap between two built-ins — and we build to it. Bear in mind that past about 150 cm the frame needs a centre support or a deeper rail; we will tell you which your length requires.
It is the one we most often suggest. There is no seat angle or arm height to negotiate, the lead time is the same, and the cost of finding out whether a workshop builds well is much lower than on a sofa. A number of our sofa clients started with a bench.
Drawings, material samples and a fixed quote within 1–2 weeks of your first brief. Production is 8–14 weeks from approval — the same as larger pieces, because the frame, upholstery and finishing steps are identical.
Yes, and pairs are common for stools and end-of-bed benches. Both are cut from the same hide or the same fabric roll where possible, which matters more than people expect — leather and natural-fibre cloth vary between batches, and a pair sourced months apart will not read as a pair.
